Our changed thriller idea and new costumes

We ended up changing our thriller idea due to realising that the filming of it could end up being too expensive and hard to film. We have therefore decided to do a remake of 'Jack the Ripper' and are setting it in the victorian era, i have therefore taken it abpon myself to look for outfits which would fit this criteria.
Consitering that we would be doing Jack the Ripper, the woman in it would be a prostitute but would also have to be victorian. I think it would look something like this;
The actress would probably wear some kind of coat over this outfit so as not to seem too provocative.
Jack the ripper would probably wear something along the lines of;

Deadly

This shows the style in which we want our actor to be dressed. The black cape creates an eerie and mysterious effect.

Analysis of 'The Skin I Live In' with no sound

The first shot of this trailer is a woman at gunpoint. This tells us that the movie we would watch is some kind of thriller, the girl is also lieing on a red bed wearing red lipstick, which could represent danger. She is breathing heavily, conveying that she is scared, again telling us that this is some kind of thriller. There is then a shot of a man who is dripping with water, he is pale and is half in shadow and half in the light. This could represent the battle between good and evil which is a constant theme in most thrillers. It also has an element of horror to it thought as the mans eyes are wide open and he is scared, showing that he is traumatized and frightened. There is then a close up of someone putting on gloves, showing that they're trying to hide their identity. The gloves are also black so we can connote that they are trying to hide their identity for a dangerious or evil reason.  It also includes multiple fight scenes which is a steriotype aspect in the thriller genre. If i had to guess i think this would be a phycological thriller.

The Skin I Live In Trailer - The Skin I Live In Movie Trailer

Audion with no sound trailer analysis

You can tell that this movie is a horror or a phycological thriller despite not listening to the music, due to the dark lighting used throughout and the eerie text that appear on screen saying things such as '...prepare to feel creepy' The pace of the trailer quickens through out, so it starts slow, giving it more of a horror feel to it, however it starts quickening by using fast cuts and strobe lighting. The facial expressions of the characters are mostly distraught of scared, again giving us the impression that this film is going to be a horror. We witness many violent acts in this trailor, for instance we see a woman with a massive needle, about to stab it into a mans tongue.. Again, showing the horror side of the movie. The beginning of the trailer shows a car driving off into a isolated area, where you can't see any form of human life. This connotes that they are going to be trapped in wherever they're going to. The text that appears on screen is also in black and white, the black representing evil and the white good. This could be seen as the battle between good vs. evil.

Plot narrative for our thriller

The thriller opens with  the coffee cup (which has already been swirled), the coffee and milk are blending together and creating patterns. This is used to show into someones soul. Next we have a zoom in of the coffee cup whch becomes transparents and a close up of a womans face appears. Her features are distorting, this is to re-enforce the idea of a psychological thriller. Next we see a close up of her eyes which look as though they have droplets in them or ripples of water. This is also used to connote tears and that the woman is upset. There is a zoom out and the face becomes transparents and in the background we see a girl going down a spiral staircase. There are large brihghtly coloured balls bouncing around the end of the staircase. This suggests that the world in which the woman is in is slightly surreal and she is bouncing between reality and her subconscious. The transparent face remains. Next we see the same woman walking down a long corridor and will use a xxx shot. The face will come back into focus and we will see her full face but with kaleidescope patterns in her eyes which portrays hypnotism and confusion.

Moving our idea further

Hypnotic dream like investigation

Instead of some of the swirls we have thought about using coulourful inks dropped in water like in the two youtube videos above. in slow motion the inks dispersing in water creates a hypnotic dream like sense. Turning the camera upside down also creates a trippy effect Also nail vanish in water creates a interesting and vibrant effect

Coffee experiments for thriller

video

For our thriller we want to use coffee in the first and last clips, the coffee is going to represent a window into the characters soul. as they go deeper and deeper into a dream like state.

How we came up with our thriller idea

We came up with our new idea threw watching the opening title sequence of Vertigo. in vertigo there is a close up of a womans face and then images of coulourful hypnotic sprials that swirl and swirl around, creating a dream like quality. We have used this clip as the foundation to our thiller opening title sequence.

Wednesday, 7 November 2012 - New thriller idea and development

thriller

 - water droplets

We liked the ripples as they show the sub-conscious mind and how a small thing can have a big effect - ie one droplets creates many ripples / one move in life changes everything Womans face distorted using fish eye lends, and twisting in circular motions.
balls bouncing which connotes between reality and dreams water droplets in eyes and on face - distorted transparent face with images of someone walking down spiral star case and down a long dark corridor coffee swirls merges into her face Many directors have used coffee to show into someone's soul. And how the world is like a vortex into the mind Effect when the person is walking threw the corridor as it shows us going deeper and deeper into her mind. Kaleidoscope images in her eyes show dreams and childhood memories and how she is confused
